Overview
Alignment is a semi-colloquial term used in reference to a character's morality, ethics, personality, lawfulness, etc. Mostly it specifically refers to the alignments outlined in the Dungeons & Dragons 3.0 rules.
There are two axises on which a character's alignment are scaled: law vs. chaos, and good vs. evil.
The first axis is based on whether a character is more apt to follow tradition, law, code, order, orthodox, etc. or if they don't. The second axis is best described on how they act towards others: the more 'good' they are, the more they wish to help and heal; the more 'evil', the more they wish to harm and hinder.
There are nine combinations used on this site (the same ones in the D&D rules), including variations with neutrality on either or both axis. In-depth descriptions of each can be found in the pages listed to the right.
