Chaotic Good
Overview

Chaotic Good is one of nine unofficial alignments used to describe a character's personality and ethics sway.

Wikipedia says* on characters of this alignment: "A chaotic good character favors change for the greater good, disdains bureaucratic organizations that get in the way of social improvement, and places a high value on personal freedom." Robin Hood is the classic epitome of an extremely chaotic good character.

On the law vs. chaos axis, they are chaotic. They often believe that strict traditions, laws, codes, and a government with too strong of an arm over its people are only restrictive and hindersome, and that people who are forced to live under too harsh a system will not reach the full potential of their happiness in life. They may either simply act without regard to law, passively or unconsciously breaking it as it suits them for the right cause, or may directly and actively seek to upset the lawful order of things and to cause anarchy (or at least some sort of democracy instead of the usual monarchy).

On the good vs. evil axis, they are good. This means that they seek to help others and generally avoid harming others as much as possible (compare to the chaotic evil characters, who unprovokedly cause harm whenever possible; the chaotic neutral who act unruly but not in specific regards to others' wellbeing; and the lawful good, who protect and heal the good, while zealously seeking to smite the unjust). They will do the best deeds they can even if doing so is illegal. It may be as extreme as "robbing from the rich to give to the poor", or as low-key as spreading the evangelism of a banned, good-aligned religion. Those who aided the American Underground Railroad would be considered, as a whole, Chaotic Good.

Their downfall is that sometimes they become zealously opposed to codes of any kind, while in some cases using a set pattern of behaviour, or allowing the government to set some restrictions, can be beneficial. They may also be seen as untrustworthy for contracts and promises; they it would be ethical for them to keep their word, if any promise would conflict with the greater good, they may see fit to discard it. They would live an extremely difficult and suffocating life in any lawful evil society and their rebellious tactics would likely bring down a death sentence on them quickly.
