Overview
Mpreg is the phenomenon where a character is pregnant while male. This includes FTM characters but not MTF. It is significantly less common than female pregnancies for the obvious reason of usually being impossible; however, there are indeed a number of these cases and the reasons behind them vary.
As it would be in real life, an mpreg situation is dangerous to the health of both father and child. Usually these children are delivered via Cesarean section, or are some kind of "chest-burster", or the father is transformed into a female for the birth.
Magic
Some sort of spell has caused it to happen. See magical pregnancy.
Shemale
The character may possess equal male and female portions, or have an odd division like 8/2, 6/4, 9/1, or even just a faint trace of female chromosome in an otherwise all-male body. This may also include characters who are technically plants, as natural plants are hermaphroditic.
Genderless
The character is technically genderless, or some other gender entirely, or is a construct (robot/puppet/etc.), but superficially resembles a male.
Xenomorph
The character is impregnated by a creature similar to the Xenomorphs of the "Alien" movie franchise, which make them more of a temporary parasite than a pregnancy; the difference here is that while a complete parasite would only use the host's body for survival, in this case, it is also made of half of the host's DNA. Usually this type is completely non-consensual and involves no actual sex beforehand; the parasitic offspring simply draws DNA out of the host upon implantation. "It" is an infamous instigator of Mpreg.
Who knows?
In some cases, after sex, a man simply becomes pregnant. Usually this is when he has sex with another man and is on the bottom.
