Overview
Richard Lauder originated as a recurring character in the backstories of other characters of Joelle's. His first name was picked for being stereotypically British-sounding. His last name was picked as a reference/homage to Harold Lauder, from Stephen King's The Stand (upon whom another of Joelle's characters is based.) Personality Richard is a pretty easy-going guy whose only goal in life is to enjoy it, and make sure everyone else is enjoying it too. He loves to entertain and is energized by socializing. His worst fear is to cause emotional or physical harm to someone. He loves to hear and share life stories with people, loves to serve large, extravagant meals, and loves to use any money he earns purely for entertaining people or funding society in some way. He is always chipper and willing to talk. On the downside he can come across as saccharine because he shoves away any dark parts of his past and refuses to be saddenned by them, staying in a state of constant denial instead. He is a flirt and is rather loose and not good at being faithful to women; not because he wants to hurt them, but because he simply enjoys spending time with people and half of all people are women...and spending too much time with them tends to lead to sex. Appearance Richard is a fairly handsome young man, with mousey-brown wavy hair, and blue-gray eyes. He tends to wear various shades of gray, or sometimes white, and usually dresses in suits with waistcoats. If he ever dons a hat, it's a straw boater. His werewolf form is an extremely average gray-brown wolf with blue eyes, though slightly larger than normal. Powers Richard has no magic except for being a werewolf. He is a very talented chef however. Pre-role-play history Richard was born on Earth in France in the late 1800s to an English man named Liam Lauder and a French woman named Celine Boucher. He was raised bilingually and frequently visited his father's home country. He lived on a farmstead in Bergerac with his parents and siblings Odette and Alexander. He received an excellent education at a private school (at his father's behest), eventually moved to London to open a restaurant (at his father's behest), and shortly married a local woman named Elizabeth (at his father's behest). Elizabeth however became extremely dissatisfied with life, depressed from failure to conceive, and distant and bitter towards Richard. He began to stray, and ended up having an affair with a woman named Karen, who then secretly murdered Elizabeth behind his back so she could have him all to herself. When she also became distant and disappeared for weeks at a time, he began to stray from her as well. When she found out, she flew into a rage and burned down his restaurant. After that, he moved back to Bergerac and worked as a cook in local restaurants, and never married again. He witnessed both World Wars and ended up traveling around Europe in an attempt to avoid any violence, while his brother Alexander was killed in battle. Finally, Richard settled down in the countryside, lived to old age, and died of natural causes in the mid-1900s, overall content with his life. Role-play history ...and then the mischievous goddess Paji thought it would be funny to resurrect him as his younger self (memories intact) in Lakeside, where various people he'd known from Earth were also now residing. Among them were Yaheva, now a demoness and apparently a lesbian; and "Karen", who Richard discovered was actually the demon Dechaerrim who had been genderbent those years ago. Shortly after arriving in Lakeside, Richard was kidnapped and tortured briefly by Malystrics, who also informed hm that "Karen" had been pregnant and just about to tell him the news when she'd caught him cheating and left him, consequently miscarrying. Richard ended up as a cook at The Abnoc working for Mar, with whom he also ended up sleeping with. He also had a lengthy sexual relationship with Nikki at one point. Richard was eventually bitten by a werewolf named Hannah, and wolfsbane failed to cure him, and it is now a permanent curse. He then bought a necklace from Gim which lets him keep his human sanity while transformed. At one point, Dechaerrim approached Richard in the guise of "Karen" again for a couple of nights. However, she became pregnant and was unable to transform back. Things became more complicated when Dech's indefinitely-missing wife Jayden returned to town and found out. Current Status Richard is alive and resides in Lakeside. Family Richard's parents were Liam and Celine, his siblings were Odette and Alexander, and his had a huge extended family besides; none are still alive. |
