The Silly Ages
Overview

"The Silly Ages" is a colloquial, Out of Character term sometimes used to refer to the early real-life years of role-playing, most specifically 2002. It's characterized by the silly, random chaos that went on that was mostly due in part to most of the role-players in the group being 10-13 years old (and because any more serious role-players typically split off at that point, playing Fantasy/Modern more often).

The most prominent aspects of this time were:
  • The obedience curses, which originated when Dalion bought a single obedience necklace from a wandering gypsy. They were then rapidly duplicated and made stronger and more permanent by other beings, including...
  • The assorted genies. There were The Muffin Man (a doppelganger genie muffin), Foo Foo (another genie, rival/lover of MM), Aoi (a kitten genie who was in fact an angel that lost his mind), Pepsi, and others. (Gaurav was created later.)
  • Heavy relations with Earth. Characters were often either warped to Earth, or role-players interjected themselves directly into the Fantasy/Medieval world to mess with their own characters.
  • Lots of silly sexual behavior, including: enforced or just unwise mating by obedience curse/love potion/locked in a box/truth or dare games/alcohol/all of the above/et cetera. Not all of it was rape; some of it was just promiscuity. A symptom of this is everyone's 10+ offspring.
  • Lots of rampant murders and death. Most characters who lived at this time have as many or more deaths than children (up to 111, James' record).
  • An inability for anyone to stay the same species, gender, or age for very long.
  • A slapstick, impartial, irreverent attitude held toward all of the above. While most things still happen from time to time to today's characters, it's generally treated with the seriousness that the characters themselves would realistically react with.
